Philosophy

Our number one rule at Spring Vale is that life is to be enjoyed. We work hard and relax even harder. However, we do have several core goals which we aim for:

1. To produce the highest quality wines possible.
2. To promote the Freycinet Coast and Tasmania as food and wine destinations.
3. To promote the Freycinet Coast and Tasmania as super-premium Pinot Noir regions.
4. To retain and expand customer loyalty by maintaining high quality, good value wines.
5. To preserve the qualities that make family businesses unique and rewarding.
6. To always be progressive in winemaking, viticulture and farming.
7. "Aperto vivere voto."

This last motto is a Latin expression which is featured as part of the Lyne family seal - in a sense, it's the motto the Lynes have always strived to live by. As much as we can gather (not many people speak Latin anymore!), it means something like, "Live for your dreams." We reckon that if your everyday life resembles your "dream life", then you are doing OK.

We believe that life is good, and high quality wines help keep it that way! We aim to let the fruit from our unique site fully express itself. Tasmania is a cool climate, so the grapes require rather a long time to ripen. We taste the berries for ripeness and use sugar content as a secondary ripeness indicator.

In short, we believe that the quality of wine is determined by the quality of the grapes, and that our grapes deserve to reach their maximum ripeness to produce the best wines possible. We aim to devote as much time as is necessary to the wines to ensure they are the best they can be.
